The Frosted Makeup: The Trend That’s Taking Over

By Ellie Nicole Byrne

Every season there’s a new and exciting trend that overtakes social media by storm. This winter, we’re witnessing a resurgence of frosted makeup, a trend that transports us back to the early 2000s. This nostalgic revival introduces a shimmering charm to a new generation.

The beginning of the trend.

The frosted makeup trend first gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s and was used particularly in the holiday period to create a ‘festive’ look. Celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears could often be seen wearing light blue shimmery eyeshadow to replicate a ‘frosted’ look on the red carpet, popularising the makeup style among their fans.

How times changed.

As the 2000s continued, this makeup trend slowly started to fade out, replaced by neutral eyeshadow looks and matte finishes. Soon these same celebrities began opting for a more ‘no-makeup makeup’ and focused on enhancing their natural features, which led to fans following along.

The Resurgence of Frosted Makeup.

During the 2020s we’ve seen the rise of social media platform, TikTok, which has allowed ordinary individuals to express themselves and share beauty looks by uploading short videos online. Over recent years, there’s been an array of different makeup and fashion styles that have gone viral on tiktok, creating new trends and bringing back old iconic looks, such as the frosted makeup style.

Influencers on the app, such as Sophia @oatmilkmakeup, have taken to posting tutorials of this style, and gained over 72 thousand views.

If you want to recreate your own ‘frosted’ makeup look, you can use a variety of different products. One product that has gained large popularity is Made By Mitchell’s ‘comet case’ which he says even Sabrina Carpenter uses! The product includes 8 cool toned shimmery cream highlighters, these can be used to create eyelooks – that make your eyes pop and have that shimmery frosted look or to make your skin glow and stand out on those dark winter nights.

It can be bought on TikTok for as little as $5
