I haven’t had an Ipsy or Boxycharm subscription for a long time. After ending my YouTube channel because I was working full time and trying to get my freelance career off the ground, I just stuck with what I knew and loved in makeup, but I wanted to give them another try as so much has changed since I was a subscriber.
For one thing, Ipsy and Boxycharm are now under the same label. There are more options for bags sizes and prices. I opted for the Ipsy Glam Bag and the standard Boxycharm.
When the first box arrived, I’ll be honest, I had no idea whether it was Ipsy or Boxycharm. The box said Ipsy and there wasn’t a card inside detailing the products as expected.
I got an email the next day with info on how to use the products. Here’s what I got and what I thought.
BEAUTY FOR REAL Perfect Precision Complexion Brushes – Powder + Complexion – $42 value
These brushes feel extremely nice. The description doesn’t indicate what the brushes are made of, but they are vegan and cruelty-free. The handle had a nice, soft rubber grip, and the bristles are extremely soft.
The complexion brush (top) replaced my go-to brush from Believe Beauty at once. It blended my foundation like a dream without leaving streak marks and even did a great job around my nose stud.
I found the powder brush to be a little too large for the under-eye area, with how soft it is, but it did a decent job. I was also ok with powdering my T-zone. I don’t think it will replace my go-to ColourPop powder brush though.
PHASE ZERO MAKE UP Liquid Eyeliner in Black – $21 value
I don’t wear a lot of liquid eyeliner these days (46-year-old hooded eyes). My go-to was always the KVD Tattoo liner. The Phase Zero liner did an admirable job of lining my upper lashes. Precision to get right on the last line was a little tough. This would be better suited to a thicker line. I didn’t have any trouble getting a kitten wing, and it lasted all day without smudging. This Phase Zero liner is solid choice for a black liquid liner.
TOUCH IN SOL No Poreblem Primer – $18 value
The touch in SOL primer was velvety smooth and did a good job of helping my makeup last, but I didn’t really see any pore minimization or skin smoothing with this primer. It didn’t come close to toppling my holy grail e.l.f. poreless face primer and that one is less than half the price!
ACE BEAUTÉ Effortless Radiance Loose Setting Powder in Fair – $26 value
I’ve been wanting to try Ace Beauty for a while as I keep seeing it on Instagram. This powder was nice. Very soft and finely milled. It didn’t make my face look cakey, even on my dry to normal skin. It did a great job on my undereye and didn’t crease. I would say it slightly edges out my daily e.l.f. High Definition powder ($6) and is just slightly below the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder ($32).
VIOLET VOSS Berries N’ Cream Dreams Eyeshadow Palette – $37 value
My favorite thing from the box was the Violet Voss Berries and Cream palette. It has definitely Modern Renaissance vibes. I love the warm berry color story and these shadows are buttery soft and blended like a dream. They remind me a bit of the LORAC shadows but without the powdery kickup. It has five shimmers and five mattes for a good balance. There are two middle-toned shades that make finding a crease shade easy for many skin tones (but not all). Berryland didn’t show up on me at all, but I do like having a shadow that shade to set my eyeshadow primer during the warmer months.
Boxycharm is now $28 a month plus $1.99 shipping, so $30 a month. This box had a value of $144.
What do you think about the new Boxycharm?
