Let’s be honest, the holidays, or any gift-giving event, can be stressful, especially when you’re on a budget. It’s true that it’s difficult to buy expensive things, but here’s the good news: you dont have to spend a lot of money to give something special. In fact, some memorable items are priceless. Here are 10 ideas that will allow you to make thoughtful and impressive gifts with out breaking the bank. 

1. Artisan Beauty Products

Duration: 1-2 hours

I’m a little biased here, but trust me, making these isn’t just fun. You have the gift of kindness, but he is very attentive! You can make sugar, bath bombs or lip balm with anything you have at home. I made these for friends and they love how personal and unique they are. Besides, who don’t like to take care of themselves?

2. A Thoughtful Regift

Cost: free

Duration: from 10 to 30 minutes

Let’s be real, sometimes we get gifts that are not good for us, but they are not good, are they very good for nobody. If you do this correctly, the correction will be very significant. For example, if you have  book that really inspired you, send it to someone who will appreciate it. Don’t forget to include a note explaining why you think it would be perfect for that person. It’s the idea that counts, not the price!

3. Create a Personal Playlist

Duration: 30 minutes to 1 hour

Remember the day when we burned CDs and mixtapes? Although we live in a romantic world, there is something very nostalgic and comforting about creating a playlist for someone. Choose songs that remind you of your relationship or songs that you love. It’s free, but the emotional impact is huge!

4. Handwritten Letters

Duration: 1-2 hours

In a world where everyone is glued to their cell phone, a written letter is  rare thing — handmade – this is special. Taking the time to write a heartfelt letter or fill small journal with thoughts, memories or funny quotes is special. It’s personal, it’s small, and it’s something they’ll treasure forever. I still have letters from my childhood friends and they mean a lot to me.

5. A Homemade Meal

Duration: 2 to 3 hours

Who don’t like to eat? If you are an expert in the kitchen or you like to bake, baking a homemade cake or a batch of cookies is a great way to show someone you care. Plus, its the kind of gift you love receiving over a lunch or bar. Some of my best memories are when I sat with friends around the table and enjoyed what they gave me.

6. Photo Collage or Brochure

Collect some of your favorite photos and create a collection, an album, or write your own dearest memories. Its a creative way to remember and, honestly, its one of those gifts that will be remembered for years to come. I already made a photo album for my mom and showed it at home — everyone win!

Do you have a special talent? Maybe you like photography, organizing or taking care of children. Donate your skills! I have given the “books” to friends for photo shoots or children’s parties and they love them. They are convenient, thoughtful and save money – you can spend time helping!

Time: 1-2 hours

If you  never made a candle before, don’t worry, it’s easier than it looks. All you need is beeswax, milk and essential oils. The best part? You can create a personalized fragrance that you know your partner will love. I have made candles as gifts before and trust me, they are always good.

9. Make a Plant with Plant Scraps

Duration: 30 minutes – 1 hour

If you have a potted plant, you can make a new one by removing the fragments and growing. … It’s like giving a living gift – literally! I’ve done this for vegan friends and they always appreciate the effort and persistence. A treasure that always changes, just like your friend!

10. Custom Recipe Book

Cost: $5 to $10

Time: 2 to 3 hours

Do you have many family recipe or favorite dishes? Collect in a recipe book for your foodie friends. You dont need anything fancy – draw or write, add some notes and voila! It is personal, practical and will become a memory. I made this for a friend who loves to cook and uses it all the time.
